Wines worth paying attention to.
That’s what Italics is all about.

Italics Winery - Italics Wines and Appellations Wines - Italics Wine

The Italics portfolio offers tasters the opportunity to experience the breadth of Bordeaux varietals that grow on our Coombsville estate. But our ambition doesn’t end at our property line; we also produce Appellations, a wine blended with fruit from each of Napa Valley’s AVAs. Oakville, Rutherford, St. Helena... Spring, Diamond and Howell Mountain — they’re all represented in this unorthodox and deeply satisfying wine.

In seeking out vineyard sources for this wine, we sometimes find a parcel that’s especially well-farmed for the vintage. When we can, we take a little more than we need for our blend and bottle it separately. This wine we call One of Sixteen. But really it’s one of a kind.

Having said all that, we should probably manage your expectations. There’s isn’t a lot to go around. Our highest volume wine, our estate Cabernet, is about 500 cases. Everything else is minuscule — two to ten barrel’s worth at the most. These wines we allocate to our members who have the good sense to snatch them up as they’re offered. So when you see a wine without a “buy it now” button, you’ll know why. Should your curiosity get the best of you, you’re welcome to join our club. We’d be thrilled to have you.

2012 Italics Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

Our flagship wine is complex, concentrated and very rich, with mouth-warming tannins to engage your senses. It has both immense fruit and detailed structure.  It is at once savory and sweet. You'll taste blackberry, cassis, brioche and roasted coffee. And given the wine's extraordinary length and persistence, you'll taste them for minutes on end. With such a long finish you could lose track of time.  So be it.

2012 Italics Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

The first vintage of our Estate Cabernet Sauvignon offers aromas of plum, black currant and pomegranate which gives way to black licorice and cocoa powder that are a signature of the AVA. With a rich mouthfeel and polished tannins, it can be consumed alone, but will stand up to the most robust meals.

2013 Italics White Blend

The 2013 Italics White Blend shines brilliantly in the glass with the color of pale yellow sapphire, tempting the nose with aromas of toasted pineapple and coconut and a hint of lychee. The wine's rich mouthfeel vibrates with tart green apple, caramel and smoked almonds, finishing with wet stones and flint.

2015 Italics Estate Rose

Rosés can run the gamut from floral to fruity to savory depending on what grape their made with and how much skin contact they’re allowed. Our Rosé is made in the saignée method, by “bleeding” juice from the grapes prior to fermentation. The resulting wine is pink in color, with aromas of raspberries, rose petals and candied strawberry. A clean, crisp wine with a mouth-watering finish that refreshes, sip after sip.

2013 Italics One of Sixteen Malbec, Atlas Peak

Malbec traditionally is used as an aromatic blender in Bordeaux wines, but sometimes the varietal stands out by itself. In 2013, the Atlas Peak Malbec we used for our Sixteen Appellations blend was singled out during barrel aging for its exquisite nose of boysenberry and lilac. The boysenberry nose is complemented by sweet dolce de leche flavors in the mouth. The wine is floral, supple and a treat for the senses.

2013 Italics One of Sixteen Merlot, Spring Mountain District

High above the town of Saint Helena, in the rocky soils of the Mayacamas mountains, lies the famed Keenan Estate.  We managed to pull an extra ton of fruit from these steeply terraced rows — a ton more than we needed for our Sixteen Appellations blend — and set it aside for our club members  A nose of cedar wood leaps from the glass. A fine-grained, almost velvety texture, arrives with your first sip. Then the chocolate-y creaminess that is quintessential Merlot. The finish is long, giving you plenty of time to contemplate what to have for dinner.
